The sheath also features a Gil Hibben knifesmith snap button and leather leg lash. The sheath bears the Gil Hibben knife maker stamp on its reverse side under the red tape. It is believed the knife was sharpened in Hibben's knife shop personally by the knifesmith for the proposed scene mentioned above. The knife has a small piece of red leather affixed to its lash in handwritten black ink warning "Sharp!" as well as one on the reverse side of the sheath that reads "SHARP" referring to the blade having been sharpened prior to production and being brought to set by Stallone. The fact that the crossguard is stamped with two different Rambo film titles is highly unusual and makes this very rare Rambo III Bowie knife truly one-of-a-kind. Note: The custom made limited edition Hibben Rambo III Bowie knives which Hibben produced for his shops knife collectors, after the release of Rambo III, featured a Gil Hibben shop logo as well as a specific edition number and the edition size, distinctly on the lower right area of the blade, which this specific knife does not feature, as it was made specifically for film production use.

The crossguard above the hilt on this knife was stamped / engraved "Rambo III" and "Rambo IV" by Hibben. Ultimately Stallone decided to use a Rambo II The Mission Survival Bowie knife for the scene. This knife, the same model Gil Hibben had made for Rambo III (Carolco Pictures, 1988), and a Rambo III style Bowie with a blade forged in D2 Steel, in the event there was difficulty cutting through the metal petrol cans during filming. Stallone requested Gil Hibben forge two Rambo III Bowie knives for the sequence. Stallone had planned a scene that was cut from the film (although featured on the DVD Extended Cut) featuring Rambo piercing the sides of gasoline cans on the pirate river boat after he killed its crew (in order to prevent them from harming the missionaries he was transporting up river).
